We have a survey that has been used since December 2005. Currently the "Choose Month" question places the oldest month (December 2005) at the top of the drop down list. This is due to months were originally inserted in order. However, now it seems that it may be better to have the most current month at the top of the drop down list so the respondant will choose the correct month. The drop down list is getting rather long. There are cases where the respondant chose the incorrect month and/or year.

How do I change the sorting order of these months without loosing all the existing data?

I would like to have the most current month at the top of the drop down list. I also know that the numeric value has to stay the same for each choice.

The only way I can see is when adding additional months is to delete then re-add the choices further down the list and add the newer months at the top.

Currently the only area for adding another choice is at the bottom. Possibly in the future an additional selection could be added on the "Edit Answer Type" area to insert choice at the "Top" or "Bottom" of the list.

Please advise if anyone has a solution.

Thanks

Yeah, this'll be a real pain. You'll have to go into the database and edit the sorting order values directly. If you simply change the months name, the data won't follow it. If "December 2005" is answer id 25, then all you're doing is changing the "label" for the answer type, not the answer id.

There's no easy way to do this for one question other than manipulating the "avid" value directly in the "answer_values" table for the values in question. Are you familiar with SQL?

Thanks for the response. Sadly I am not familiar with SQL, however our IT staff is. Do you have a suggestion what to do so I can relay the info?

Thanks
